EngageAll

Inclusive student civic engagement as a pathway for enhanced skills and competences in professional higher education

Building skills through student civic engagement in professional higher education

About

The EngageAll project addresses the crucial role of Professional Higher Education (PHE) institutions in fostering active citizenship and highlights the wide-ranging benefits of student involvement beyond academic study. This includes participation in

  • institutional initiatives,
  • local community projects, and
  • activities addressing broader societal challenges.

With a focus on the unique and diverse student body within PHE, EngageAll pays specific attention to challenges students face in balancing academic commitments with extracurricular activities.

Purpose

EngageAll aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of student engagement and civic involvement in developing key competencies.
  • Promote wider inclusion, particularly for underrepresented students facing socio-economic or cultural barriers.
  • Develop tools and strategies to support PHE institutions in facilitating student engagement and civic participation.

Vision

EngageAll helps students join extracurricular activities regardless of their background. This includes civic and student engagement. Our goal is to create

  • richer learning experiences
  • better job prospects
  • stronger links between education and society

By making these opportunities more visible, accessible, and valued, EngageAll helps students develop essential skills, civic values, and democratic engagement. This builds a bridge between higher education and civil society.

News

The second EngageAll peer learning webinar was held on 6 October 2025, titled “Engage and Learn: A Competence Framework for Student Civic Engagement”.

The webinar focused on presenting the newly-developed EngageAll Framework to measure civic engagement in professional higher education institutions. Following the presentation by researchers from project partner Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Karlsruhe (DHBW), expert speakers from the Technological Higher Education Association (THEA) and Civil Society Europe (CSE) provided their reflections on the Framework. Participants then engaged in discussions on the usefulness and applicability of the Framework in diverse institutional contexts.

You can now watch the recording of the webinar above and learn more about the Framework and how professional higher education institutions can effectively measure and enhance student civic engagement.
